Jeanne Boyko http://b.jeanneboyko.com/?p=97 Today I spent some hours compiling my manuscript so I have a hard copy from which to go about the revision process. The problem was I’d brought chapters into my wonderful Scrivener software from so many different sources (gmail docs, Neo Office, PDFs, RTFs, all kinds of madness) that it managed to mess up the pre-set official manuscript settings in several (but not all) documents.

I fixed the extra spaces between paragraphs, but I’m not sure what to do with chapters that had all their paragraphs double-indented, or how to get back the pre-set format for new chapters. This is the part of writing that I hate! My wonderful in-house geek (husband) will surely be able to help, but for now, I have what I need to start revising.

And yes, next time I will write that whole darn thing in Scrivener and not have to deal with this mess!

    • ]]>     Came across some other valid background notes and had to put them into Scrivener.  Put in some structural reminders as well (Scene and Sequel, MRU's) but I'm going to try not to think about the analytical end and just get the story down.  That's the point of Nano.  Not sure if I'll start some writing before church tomorrow or wait for the official Write-In time.  Guess we'll see.

Jeanne Boyko http://b.jeanneboyko.com/?p=23 Filling in Character information in the research section of Scrivener.  Came up with another interesting connection between two characters and a cool plot twist in the process.  Better motivation is just better for the story.  The plot section of the Holly Lisle Scenes course I’ve been working on helped me to see where I could lead the reader to assume a certain outcome, then turn it around in a surprising and hopefully satisfying way.  I also saw a good place to use Omniscient Conflict to help spread the bread crumbs that keep readers turning pages.

    Hopefully there will be many more “Oh!  It would be so much better if I…” moments when the real writing starts in just a few days.

    • ]]>     Sooo impressed with Scrivener!  I've got my 16 plot cards entered along with special notes for each scene.  I've begun to put my world building, character and conflict information into the research section.  I love how easy it is to flip from one thing to the next, even just filling in the synopsis cards.  Incredibly helpful tool!

    At least a few hours spent between reviewing the tutorials and setting up my Nano project.  I'm excited to start writing on Sunday!

    • ]]>     Val Comer put up the link that Scrivener is offering extended free trials of its amazing writing software to Nanowrimo participants this year.  I downloaded it and am going through the tutorials.  It's quite fantastic.

    In other news, I found my world building and character notes, although it caused an avalanche in my writing closet.  Tomorrow I will finish the tutorials and refamiliarise myself with this information as I enter it into Scrivener.  It could happen - I might just be prepared for November 1!
